“.. so few”  2010

“.. so few”  - 50 x 40 cm - painted, kiln-formed glass, wire suspension

Text Box: Architectural Glass

This 2010 Stevens Competition design for the entrance to the Archives Centre of Churchill College, Cambridge was inspired by one of Churchill’s iconic wartime speeches.

“Never in the field of human conflict has so much been owed by so many to so few.”

The distillation of Churchill’s words is intended to express the inclusiveness of the college and the exclusiveness of the Archives Centre.

Kiln-formed elements would be suspended inside the window and would appear as abstract forms from inside.  Outside, when approaching the building, the elements would form the words “so few”. The encapsulated lettering would be legible only at close proximity, from the staircase behind, when looking out of the building.

This design and sample panel was commended by the Worshipful Company of Glaziers and Painters of Glass and was shortlisted for commission.
